Department of Mechanical Engineering

Introduction

Acquiring Hands-On Expertise with the Fundamentals and with Cutting-Edge Technologies

The future promises to bring us a variety of new machines, such as robots that understand human emotion, environmentally friendly equipment for daily life, and high-tech devices for space exploration and advanced medicine. While tackling diverse needs, research in the field of mechanical engineering explores ways in which machines, humans, and the environment can coexist in harmony. This department covers the fundamentals of mechanical engineering while also introducing specialized knowledge in state-of-the-art technologies such as advanced robotic systems and micromachinery. Through a curriculum that emphasizes experiments and hands-on training, students also acquire skills in drafting and design.

Cultivating Mechanical Engineers Who Consider the Harmony between People and Machines

The educational goal of this department is to develop students into engineers who have the ability to apply their expertise, solve problems, and consider how humans can coexist in harmony with machines. Our curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning and fosters a comprehensive range of abilities in students. In one class, students conduct every step of the manufacturing process, from drawing up blueprints to assembling a final product themselves. Experiments that deepen students' understanding of and interest in mechanical engineering are another noteworthy part of the curriculum. Other subjects taught here include technical drawing; first-year students in this discipline learn the basics, while second- and third-year students use 3D CAD.

Curriculum

The 21st century is seeing machines becoming ever more integrated into human lives. Mechanical engineering is a branch of knowledge that underpins manufacturing and product engineering. As well as paving the way for a world in which machines, people, and the environment can coexist in harmony, mechanical engineering is playing a key role in developing the next generation of science and technology. This department covers the fundamentals of mechanical engineering and enables students to acquire expertise in state-of-the-art technologies through the continuous study of theory, experiments, and hands-on training.
