Successful development of luminophores with strong CPL due to organic molecules with trompe l'oeil-like geometry
High expectations for polarized luminescent-type 3D display materials

A research group headed by Kindai University Associate Professor Yoshitane Imai of the Department of Applied Chemistry in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, together with three researchers from the Department of Chemistry, School of Science, Kitasato University (Dr. Masashi Hasegawa; Yuki Nojima, a first-year doctoral student; and Professor Yasuhiro Mazaki) successfully collaborated in the development of CPL (circularly polarized luminescence) material. By using an "impossible figure" motif (such as is suggested by the drawings of M.C. Escher) for the luminescent molecules, they were able to design chirality and thereby develop luminescent materials that display strong CPL properties.
