Statement on the Passing of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe

As the funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is being held today, I would like to express my deepest sorrow and condolences. I feel strong indignation at the violence of this incident and its threat to free speech and I believe that it should never be repeated.

In March of this year, he attended the graduation ceremony at our university. He gave a pleasant yet powerful and encouraging speech based on his own experience to about 6,000 young people who are taking their first step into society. I can't forget his presence.

We would like to express our sincere respect for his achievements in leading Japan with such strong conviction and leadership, and we pray for his soul.
