Under a project titled "Establishing a Best-Energy-Mix Research Center to Promote the Use of Solar Energy" (headed by Professor Hisashi Fujihara, Department of Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Engineering), a research group led by Associate Professors Yoshitane Imai and Atsushi Sudo succeeded in developing environmentally friendly light-generating materials that emit circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). This was achieved by doping inositol polymer made from rice bran with a luminescent compound. This achievement was featured in an article and as the inside cover picture in a recent issue of Organic & Molecular Chemistry, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry of the United Kingdom.
